At Passage, we believe that community is the primary driver of value in all things crypto. Community, however, is a very low resolution concept. As humans, we all instinctively get it, but community is still esoteric and subjective - even changing meaning from member to member.

We propose that a membership provides the framework for a community to be clearly defined. Memberships give precision and structure to complement an inherent sense of belonging — like all good frameworks, a good membership program is a language members use to describe the community they are a part of.

Web3 memberships are best if:

• built on smart contracts (instead of just social ones),
• game-designed to incite desired behaviors (instead of hype alone),
• multi-dimensional in value growth & business models (instead of just HODL).

If crypto depends on community, and memberships are the backbone of communities, then crypto depends on memberships.

Said another way, in order for Web3 to achieve long-term sustained growth, we need quality long lasting communities - and thereby, robust and well-built memberships.
